I am an athlete who earns a living playing the sport I am good at. You would think that being in good physical shape and being strong that I would not go to the doctor very much. I think I actually go more than people who are not athletes. I go in order to keep my body, the machine I use to get through this life, in good working order. I go to my Campbell chiropractor at least a couple of times per month to make sure my back is adjusted well and there are no problems that are starting to develop.
Just because one is an athlete does not mean that there is never any pain or problems. It just means that we probably do more to deal with the problems and more quickly than some folks. I do not like being unable to play. It takes longer to get back in the game as the years go by. Rehabilitation after injuries is a very serious matter for a pro athlete. We do not sit at home waiting to heal up. We are training and having therapy done every day to heal faster and get stronger. It is all part of sports medicine.
My Campbell chiropractor has helped me bounce back from a couple of setbacks. The goal when nursing an injury as a pro athlete is to get back to 100 percent as soon as possible. If the 100 percent is no longer attainable, then we will even work harder to keep performing at a lowered percentage. We keep going because we not only earn our living from the game, it has become a part of life to do it to the best ability that we can muster. My back has never been 100 percent since I was a child, but it has not stopped me from reaching the level I have in professional sports.
